“Prospects of a Trade War between U.S. and China”

The U.S.-China relationship is the most important in the world, involving a huge volume of trade and investment flows. President Trump campaigned against China’s trade success in the U.S. markets, threatening tariffs up to 45% to force China to renegotiate trade on a bilateral basis. He has also accused China of being a currency manipulator. What does Trump really want? Is there a chance Trump’s campaign rhetoric was not serious? If he really tries to push for balancing trade with China, does he have the power to do it? What would be the dynamic consequences of a potential U.S.-China trade war?
